Day Two - Sunday 6 November, 2022

Cultivating our Innate Capacity to Care in Education

No matter what draws us to teaching, we are bound by a deep and common need to care, for this is what we seek for ourselves. Our children remind us daily, in all sorts of ways, that Love is the source of all good things. When we show love to even our most troubled young people, both lives are transformed. Someone once said that the purpose of education is to turn human beings into people. Through education with the heart, we become people who relate to each other with compassion, kindness and care. The opposite happens when education is lacking in heart.

The research is clear that, more than anything else, children in school want to know that their teacher truly cares about them. When love and respect define all teacher-student interactions, the gates are held open for the children to celebrate their own innate capacity to care. When acquisition of knowledge grows in tandem with a caring heart, graduating students will care as much for the welfare of society as they do for themselves and their own inner circle. Day Two will open a discussion to a better understanding of how this can come about.
